maybe someone like 5nail5 can chime in. i'm trying to weigh options on a new turbo. might as well 'go small, or go home'. if what i'm hearing from commanderwiggin and a few others that a difference between a 67mm & 71 are negligible than the 67 must be a jack of all trades and a master at none.
so how much sooner can i expect to hit full boost on a 6265? and would a 6262 be more pronounced or is it similar to comparing a 67 & 71 as far as spool?

and i still would like to know more on limitations on boosted high compression setups. couldn't i decrease the threshold for methanol or start mixing 110L into my pump gas?

A 6262 is essentially a precision GT35R. It spools quite fast. However, it'll fall off since the S54 revs so high. If you don't mind some torque fall off up high go with the 6262 prob ~600 rwhp turbo on an S54. If you want a bit more go with a 6265 it'll outspool a 6765 but will flow slightly less at max. A 6765 is a nice turbo, but its lag threshold is ever so slightly earlier than a 71. 6262 is a like 675 bhp turbo, and a 6265 is like 700 - 725 bhp or so. Next step up from 6265 is the 6765 at about 755 bhp. So that bump in comp wheel size adds a smidge of lag, a bit more power, but not much. If you go to the billet 6765 (CEA) then its a 900 bhp turbo. That might be exactly what you want.

But, take a look at what HPF did with twins. That high revving motor simply cannot work with small fast spooling turbos. I know I've beat this topic to death @ CCykes, but its a perfect example. They got that "road race, low torque" bump in the dyno, but look how rapidly the power falls off.

I would look at some Supra 6262/6265 dynos and some 6765 dynos and id imagine it wouldnt be drastically different for the M3...

I know that on my car the 6262 isnt that bad but the 6765 is laggy as hell lol

Usually when people are talking about 6262's/6265's and 6765's/6768's they are all talking about the Billet wheel turbos....

Usually, but the 6765 was first available non billet and non ball bearing. The billet version is "6765 CEA"

Any dyno sheets on car's with similar motors to compare to the s54, or any numbers at all?

No clue on a bmw but here is the comparison on my Co-workers 2.4L evo:

The car made 793whp with the 3586 and 831whp with the 3794 and has more left in it with the 94.. It was tapped out on the 86

tell me more about the 6765 CEA because if i understand the 6262/6265 right i'll have a lil bump down low but have an even bigger slump up top compared to my current setup. i want to try to avoid having much fall off at the top end, and if it does i want it high enough in rpm that it hardly gets pushed out of efficiency during spirited driving (i.e. ~7-7.3k rpm).
as it stands now it falls off too early on paper but it really hasn't bothered me. i've only noticed its softer at the bottom compared to my old stage 2 (low comp to blame?) which is why i bumped this thread because i feel there's room for improvement.

Like ive already said, look up Supras with a 6262/6265 and 6765/6768 and you will see how the M3 will react since they are very close in displacement
