Best F30 rendering thus far plus chassis designation details (F30, F31, F32, F33, F34, F35) and how the 4 series fits in

This rendering from AutoBild is the best we have seen thus far. What strikes us is how the next generation won't be a radical departure from the E90. More subtle evolution than revolution. We will see more variants this generation with designations from F30 to F35. It would seem BMW is splitting the coupes away from the 3 series and moving them to the 4 series. Will coupes be even numbers and sedans odd? Sure is looking that way.

So which one is what? Here it is laid out:

    F30 - 3 series sedan
    F31 - 3 series touring/wagon
    F32 - 4 series coupe
    F33 - 4 series convertible/cabriolet
    F34 - 3 series GT
    F35 - 4 series 4 door coupe

Confusing? A little bit, but also redundant. No need for a 4 series, the 3 series has always had coupes. The 5 series GT was already a failure, why they want to repeat the mistake we do not understand. The F34 and F35 are redundant although the 4 door coupe segment does seem to sell. However, that was with more upscale models such as the CLS and Audi A7. BMW seems intent on filling niches that don't need filling, but hey, if they didn't learn their lesson with the 5 GT...

Let them learn a redundant lesson. Those GTs are pure fail. 4 Series??? No need for this non-sense.

Well, should the 6 series be called 5 coupe? Current way is not logical having 5 and 6 but then 3 and 3 coupe.

The new 3 series is looking pretty nice, can't wait to see how the F32 looks especially with an M-package.

Sure it is. 6 series was always a coupe, leave it as a coupe.

3 series always had coupes. It really isn't confusing.

What this does though is show the 2 series is going to be the successor to the 1 series in the USA.

The 4 Series was ruled out around 5 years ago by the board of directors from what I understand. They thought that it would confuse old customers. So I can see them expanding the 3 Series lineup but no 4 Series. But, it would not be the first time I was wrong. I can see how they would fit it in the lineup, and give them new niches to go after even if they are the only ones that see it, which they are kind of good at but have some misses in there as well.

4 series doesn't make sense to me either. Maybe they will change their minds? Who knows what BMW is thinking lately.

Looks like you better get on making a 4-series Section Sticky! Those headlights do look sharp though I must admit.
