How do people pass SMOG in California with a heavily modifed car?
How do people in Cali pass smog when they upgrade their cars? I've seen people going catless and a few HPF e46 M3's and I want to know what they do. Do people just have the ability to return the car to stock or am I missing something else?
This goes for any car that is heavily modified in Cali, including Evo or Sti's with upgraded turbos and exhaust, boosted S2000's, or American cars with SC.
Thanks!!!

When I lived in Cali, I kept my cat-less Audi registered in Georgia, where we had no inspection or emissions.
California is terrible for stuff like that... small price to pay for the weather and the women however!

I'm installing test pipes into my 3" mid pipes and i'm going to have 3" flanges welded onto my stock secondary cats and swap them in for the sniffer. They won't look pretty or flow well, but they catalysts will be able to do their job.

As long as you have cats you should be ok. Most people at smog places don't have a $#@!ing clue, so you don't have to worry about the visual inspection. You will have to either weld in cats to your system or swap it out for a catted system to pass the test. I keep my stock exhaust just so I can swap it out when it comes time to pass smog.

for me, i got lucky. where i live, there is a shop where the guy there is not familiar with aftermarket addons much and so he didnt even realize that my car had a kit on it. even though the blower sits right there in the front!
but anyways, yeah, i passed with flying colors.

Well it's time to cross that bridge for me. Really don't feel like taking all the $#@! off of my car to go get my car smogged. Anyone in CA have experience registering their car in a no smog county in CA? I would assume you need a permanent address in the area but hopefully not.
Hello officer.
