    AR Design N63 downpipe development

For some reason we have been left out of the loop on this even though the car pictured here belongs to BB member Jimefam and AR Design is a vendor here. We have to break some habits.

These may be ready by April looks like:

Apparently the factory cats are a huge restriction in the stock downpipes:

Lol thanks for creating this thread sticky. I'll most certainly update this thread first with any new pictures or sound clips I take. I'll also eventually post the after dyno when I take it to the place in Atl that I did my original dyno. It isn't perfect as it will have been months apart but whatever it'll be the best I can do now. Also the downpipes on my car will be done by end of next week and I'm also installing the eisenmann race exhaust on it next week.

Eisenmann race, nice! As long as you have a baseline dyno even if it is on a different day it is going to be very useful.

Bout time Andrew gets an N63 in the shop Click here to enlarge

I had mentioned this to Andrew last month, that this part of the market is lacking, I have a customer with an X6 50i that wanted downpipes made along with an exhaust...and Andrew said he was game. Good to see he jumped on it...and I can gaurentee I will have at least one customer for it. Click here to enlarge

There are some people around on the X forums that have gotten a little over 120hp gain from doing a mild flash, downpipes and a full exhaust. The downpipes come out through the top...I hope they are easier to do than the 3 series..

If they are coming out through the top and can be accessed and removed from the top, I think that should make things pretty damn easy. Don't know if it is that simple though but what you point out is interesting. Forget we have to think differently when it comes to the N63.

Damn 120hp? I'm looking forward to that! Can you tell me where you saw that at? Not doubting what you say just want to see what the dyno'd looked like as I have a feeling their before dyno's start lower than the F10's even though it's the same engine. I say this cause I've seen a few baseline X N63's and the are usually in the 320-330hp range and on here we have mine that did 386 and alextremo who did 360. In fact I remember seeing someone dyno an X5 with a full exhaust and a tune and only got 369whp and 500wtq. That is a good bit more torque than me but less hp than I make stock. I thought the possible reason for this is their exhaust might be more restrictive from the factory. Apparently the F10's isn't that bad as the eisenmann race just comes with mufflers and when I asked Nate why that was he said the stock piping was already good and in testing eisenmann didn't see any gain from changing the piping. Andrew at AR told me the same thing, that the stock piping looked good and that I probably wouldn't see much gain from changing it.

If you hunt around on the Xforums on the 'other' board there was a guy with an X6M who was selling a complete RD sport setup he had made, and with his tune he made almost a 120hp increase...I just tried looking for it and I cant find it...

Oh yeah on the M's the tunes are making substantially more power than the N63's probably due to the larger turbos and lower compression pistons allowing them to run more boost.

You can't compare RWD numbers to AWD.

That is part of it, larger turbos with more volume and also the twin scroll manifolds. The compression difference is pretty minimal.

The thing is, i dont think boost was remapped that much, I think an increase of 2 psi was it?

I believe Jeremy did the flash for it? Maybe he can chime in with some additional info.

Yup Ive had the car in my house for only two nights. But I had it for almost 3 weeks throughout Europe for my 26th birthday in November. Awesome experience and I would recommend European delivery for everyone.

I wonder if BMW will work with you to ship a car to Europe after deliver? Wish I did European Delivery, sounds like a blast.

wow, thats a DIY job if i ever saw one.. might be a bit complicated, but how tough can it be from the top.. retards are going under the 1 and 3 series and pulling it off themselves.. this looks ike a cake-walk..

It really is amazing that theyre able to manage the heat effectively with everything jammed in there so tightly between the engine and the hood.

Not to sure about how effectively it does it. I couldn't do 4 runs on the dyno cause of heat soak. The air boxes are literally on top of the cats. I will eventually get these downpipes heat coated(don't have time to do it now) I think for whoever gets these you should spend the extra cash to get them coated.

I was thinking more in terms of not melting anything than heat soak, but you may have a point. But I was able to do 5 pulls back to back with the hood closed and didn't see any drop off.

They are the biggest nightmare to get out.

This is why I have not been posting on here. So much stress from the N63.... Been at therapist. LOL

Is it due to trying to fit it in a tight space?
