The Active Autowerke experience
This review will give some detail as to my experience with AA and the install of their gen 2 level 2 supercharger on my 2009 m3. They also installed WPC treated rod bearings but not much I can say about them except they was installed and my stock bearings looked near new even with 45k miles on the clock.
First off forgive any misspellings or grammatical errors as I am just a simple oil field worker with hardly a high school education.
I purchased a barely used gen2(upgraded from gen 1) level 3 kit some many months back and contacted Andrew at AA at that time to get a quote on install and downgrading to level 2. Before anyone asks this car is my daily and I refuse to run the meth kit the level 3 would require. I was quoted what I believed was a good price .
Flash forward to a few weeks ago . I finally got some time off from work and decided to take my son to Disney World and have AA do the install of the kit/bearings while I was there. Drove from Houston Texas to Miami to drop the car off and meet with everyone at the shop. I gave them a one week deadline which they accepted.
In the time that they had my car I had nothing but first class communication from Andrew. They found some problems with the kit that had been caused by a previous shop before I even got the kit. This reassured my decision to bring the car to the experts as I doubt any other shop would of been as thorough as the kits original designer. They even cut me one heck of a deal on a different manifold when the one I had was not repairable.
A week later I drove back to AA to pick up the car. The car wasn't going to be ready till almost closing time but I had to show up early to drop off the rental car before I got charged another day anyways. So I hung out at the shop while my car was being buttoned up for the better part of half a day. I felt nothing but welcomed by every employee. Was given a nice tour of everything while I waited and just general good conversation with fellow car/BMW enthusiast . The mechanic stayed late making sure the car was perfect and the tune was nice and smooth. He had also stayed late the night before trying to make my one week deadline which I appreciated.
Once the car was completed and turned back over to me I started on my drive back to Orlando for the night . The car was beyond smooth and power delivery shocked me and also a cop who decided to pull me over and write me a ticket. Which after explaining myself and showing him receipts he agreed to dismiss in court for me.
The next day I left Orlando and headed home to Houston. Which ended up taking roughly 16 hours of straight driving . The car performed flawless the whole time. Even with the 4 or so hours of heavy downpour that I had to drive through. I liked the fact I no longer had to downshift and wind up the motor to pass slow moving traffic. The torque curve of the car is as it should of been from the factory now.
After the 16 hour trip home I took the car straight to the drag strip to see what it could do. What I found out is the track had no prep to speak of and the PSS tires where not meant for drag racing. I only managed a 12.9 @ 123mph . this is with almost a 3sec 60 foot time and going all over the track till the top of 3rd. The car has so much more in it with proper tires .
Anyways I just wanted to let everyone know my experience with Active Autowerkes and thank them for the amazing service. I wouldn't hesitate to use them ever again.
Here is a short 3rd gear pull I took with my cell phone
