Corvette Racing appears to be back to their rapid pace. The victory at the Monterey Grand Prix at Laguna Seca marks the second straight time the C7R has taken the GTLM checkered flag. BMW's Z4 GTE finished right behind for second place with Ferrari's F458 rounding out the podium. Unfortunately for Ferrari their sister car finished last in the GTLM group. The number 55 Z4 had to battle hard for its second place finish with the number 911 Porsche 911 RSR.

Contact between the two led to a 60 second penalty for the 911 pushing it back to 9th place as it was deemed the fault of Porsche driver Nick Tandy. Scot Elkins, IMSA vice president of competition and technical regulations, said: “We assessed a penalty similar to what we assessed throughout the entire race for an on-track incident which is a stop, plus 60-second penalty to the (No.) 911."

BMW has four consecutive podium finishes this season which is a very strong showing. BMW drivers Auberlen and Priaulx lead the driver standings. We will see what happens at the next race which is not until the end of the month in Detroit at Belle Isle Park.
