The sixth generation G11 7-Series is expected to bring several technological advancements when it makes its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show next year. BMW is targeting aggressive weight loss for the new 7 as previously reported but the flagship may also come with xDrive all wheel drive standard. Mercedes is adding all wheel drive as standard to more and more of its cars (the E63 is only available in all wheel drive in the United states) and with how powerful the twin turbo motors from BMW are getting all wheel drive traction also seems likes an inevitability.

The 7-Series you see below is doing testing is harsh winter conditions in Sweden in -20 degree weather. This model is an xDrive all wheel drive variant. The current generation 7-Series has both rear wheel drive and xDrive variants but BMW with the next generation may choose to save costs and offer one or the other depending on the market.
