Dont remove vanos.
I bough vanos block off kit and tested on dyno: huge loss of power from 2300 till 5700 rpm.
Just fix the vanos.
Vanos removal wont harm power band only if the M3 is used for DRAG ONLY. Launch control / build boost off the line / take off / never ever drop below 5000 rpm during 1/4 mile run. This is where you can remove vanos. But if the M3 will be a Daily driven car put back vanos, shift power band to the left side.
will post dyno graphs as soon as were finished. at 1000 rwhp car is not "daily" driven, going for record hp on e46 build.

My S50 B32 had a vanos failure just today, it was stuck at full advance, we found out a new selenoid
is needed. So yes vanos helps a lot but it needs to be checked.
Another note about "rate of acceleration" is not a valid cause for failure of vanos. Imagine, the
rate of acceleration of a bone stock M3 in neutral gear. Can our 1000 + whp S54s rev faster in any gear compared
to bone stock S54s in neutral gear? N O. But stock S54s vanos keep on working even if we rev fully in neutral.
The vanos continued to fail. Twice. Same way. It would take 100dc% at certain moments to keep it in line, exhaust only. May have been a failing accumulator, I'm not sure. However this car has made big power for years and quite some miles. Other cars in the honest 650ish whp have never had an issue. I'm a huge fan of vanos. It works and it works great. But it will not exist in this car again.
Were not done with tuning. Still on wastegate:scared-eek: Trying to see who really has a record and is the motor still together?

Yeah...... Makin more than that sticky. On a 7675. At 5 lbs less boost and girly timing!
Worried about the block and mains. Although I'd love to find the limit on a proven motor. I don't think the customer would appreciate it.

Well that's certainly pretty healthy! Are you planning to take it further without nitrous?
absolutely. At this point nitrous will only be used on launch and in between shifts. This turbo and combination is amazing.
btw. Had a oops and made 830 on 93oct by accident. 22psi. Always seem to make a little more boost on ethanol.
If you end up doing a rebuild on it or anything, we do custom rods and bearings for those engines to get rid of the factory crap bearings.

Gotcha. Are the mains studded? It would be a major MAJOR pain to build a main stud girdle, but it would help a lot with block flex and crank movement.... I don't know how you would solve the oil pan issue with it though....
mains are studded. Tool steel. Same as head. Really just concerned about the main caps, block and crank. Hell a 2j with 2 bolt billet mains and hardware will make 15xx. I thinknthis block has better material.

I agree with that. even that sometimes does not help. I had a friend who had a Grand National with a billet main stud girdle- and was pushing over 45PSI of boost..... The block (still) flexed so much, the studs holding the perimeter of the oil pan all broke off- as in, his oil pan started leaking... then REALLY leaking- then just half ass fell off the engine.... all within a few big pulls of the car over a weekend.
The main studs were the only thing holding the girdle on... and the crankshaft in... pretty scary the block flexes that much!
But realistically all blocks flex- it just depends on how much and how you manage it.... you can take a snap ball mic and put it in a bare chevy 350 block- and squeeze the block with your hands on the opposite corners..... and the ball mic will fall out :eek:

Look at semi trucks. They flex a LOT on purpose. If not, they would be VERY heavy, and the stiffness would fatigue the chassis to the point of cracking/failing.
