Well you keep staring at this thread @steedspeed might as well say something.
@steedspeed If we have more information on the manifold you will be offering I bet you could could get plenty of pre-orders assuming you were interested in them and if they were at a slight discount to cover any R&D.
Do you feel like Motiv ripped off your design? I know there are only so many ways to make a log style manifold but they were literally jizzing over your manifold a year or so ago. From my undertsaning at that time you said you wouldn't be producing them. A year or so later we have an almost replica of your average manifold that you sell.
+1 waiting on this manifold so I can build my own ST. I hope you follow through on this effort.
Sigh....
Hand fabbed, cast and CNC are the only ways to make a turbo manifold. Steed had none, zero, zilch, nada, nothing, goose egg, complete absence of existence of N54 development. There were several different manifold designs tested and designed by Jake and Bobby and the CNC manifold that is used in the final design is 100% MOTIV.
Allen, you are possibly one of my favorite members of these forums, always informative, very friendly, and very humble. But to say the Motiv manifold did not take any design cues or influence from the SS manifold design is mind blowing to me. Honestly why does it matter either way, Leen didn't want to make them at the time so Jake went the CNC route and made his own. Nothing wrong with it, but to ignore the fact that Jake and DZ were in talks with Leen way back about making manifolds just like this is pretty compelling to say they used it as an influence.
Right and where did they get the idea to make a log style cnc'd ST manifold for the N54 from? Just search on this forum and jake and dzenno from PTF/MOTIV were jizzing all over it a year ago and in DIRECT talks with SteedSpeed. Boom a year later the basic exact same design comes to market. I don't understand why they can't say they took inspiration/copied that design. As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. It doesn't take away from the Motive kit and the fact it holds the highest N54 HP record and is the best kit at this time to purchase, albeit rather expensive for what you are getting.
Let's wait for SteedSpeed to reply. I would be more interested in his view of the Motiv manifold than your view. No offense but you are obviously in the PTF/MOTIV camp and are very willing to defend it.
Just remember Jake said he wouldn't sell the manifold alone and we ALL know why ;)
Everyone rips off everyone in this game how naive are you people?
Well I feel more like people are lobbing accusations and some people are forcing things to go down toward a negative path but I'm pretty sure all vendors including yourself are aware that their products will be dissected and probably copied.
Steedspeed didn't create manifolds for some cars as I understand it as they knew someone would just send one off to China.
Being the exact opposite of negative. The SS CNC manifold design is top notch, and works well. That Motiv took inspriation from it is not a bad thing at all, which is why I am confused as to why they continue to say the took no influence, and the CNC manifold is 100% their own idea. I feel the Motiv kit is the best single option on the market at this time, just based off packaging, design cues, tuning path taken, and numbers shown so far. Its a hell of a kit.
Ok Sticky if you say so. The similarities between the 2 designs are purely coincidental, and pointing out these similarities is putting a negative spin on things. I know drama drives a lot of your forum traffic, so it makes sense for you to do this. Do me a favor, leave me out of your attempts, to start some. Thanks
I don't see how this can be any clearer. On this forum Jake and dzenno were literally gushing bout this manifold and we're in talks with steedspeed. When he said he wasn't going to make one a year later ptf/motiv comes out with basically the same manifold. I'm not sure how much clearer it could be. I mean connect the dots.
Hi will you make us a manifold for the n54 like you make for other platforms?
No.
OK we'll make our own.
go read the thread. It isn't like jake/dzenno were like oh this is just a cnc log style manifold nothing fancy. Hell i think they MADE the thread. You can tell from their posts they were excited about the design probably because they hadn't thought of it before.
I know jake will never admit it. Just like he never gives a straight answer about why he will not just sell the manifold alone.
For 8k I can buy a full twin turbo domestic kit with all piping intercooler two turbos two tubular manifolds two downpipes, etc.
I've been making manifolds this way for 12 years. Yes, I invented the method which most people said was ridiculous back when I started. My USPTO patent number is US20040045164. It covers the method of production. I can assure everyone here that the manifold will be built. I also am not in the habit of being second best in any market I venture into. If I can't make the best performing manifold then why bother right? Suffice to say I believe I can easily outperform any competing manifold and you can be sure they will never ever fail. We sold 220 M3 manifolds with many going to HPF for their kits. Not a single failure even after several years.
AWD guys! I'm going to try and shine some light on you too.
@steedspeed Please also think of us RHD folks! :)
I am always a little confused by this. No one forgetting RHD owners or cars. It would be great to be able to corner the RHD market, but the fact is, there is no single or twin kit that is going to fit an RHD vehicle. The steering shaft literally runs directly through where all the new parts sit. There is limited room in the N54 and the steering shaft elminates most of what might be usable, basically eliminating the odds of any kit fitting...:(
