Great writeup for sure! Thanks for taking the time to put that in writing for us.

Sticky i say you should make a poll about Bmw's new direction about engines
it's good to know how many owners prefer more MPG than more power
awesome sticky.... now request from me??? please please please do a Supercharger comparison, especially the advantages and disadvantages of each charger, also you could look @ flow and exlain the differences in boost pressure from each charger.
seriously??? this would genuinely cause a problem?? wow people may need to search ebay for " A life". i think it would be a great piece, especially for people like myself who dont understand the pro's and cons of different types of units!! i not talking about doing a VS, im talking about a constructive piece of the differences and potential pitfalls of EACH unit.
LOL! They're still talking about you over there Sticky. You've got fans and also ... (surprise) haters.
The drama continues.
Cheers.
It's safer for them to hide over there than actually try to confront me where the moderation won't protect them.
I just like that despite all the effort expended to try to stop me what I wrote was good enough to command attention over there. That speaks for itself :) I'm glad people are enjoying it and the haters can keep hating.

i read some of that thread that got you banned.
m5board members are very sensitive but it looked like you were trying to get banned..
i mean your m3 is faster than any stock m5/m6 but going on a m5 forum and stepping on alot of pride doesnt do anything....
kinda like when e36 insurgents leaves the safety of the bf.c grotto in search of vindication *cough* cough*
They kept saying the E39 M5 was faster than the M3 based on Gustav's videos. Only for Gustav to finally admit at the end I was right.
Secondly, the guy I ran lied and said it never happened so I called him out to do it on video and he never responded.
I thought I was pretty nice all considering especially with how long I had been a member and how much I had contributed, they are way too sensitive. Who cares, M5board isn't an enthusiasts atmosphere.
yea, it feels like thats where the older M crowd hangs?
But you can find some good people there too
whatchu guys talking about? old people mod. ever heard of Dinan?
There you go, the M5board is totally a Dinan crowd. That is a great way to put it.
They are the people who think a Dinan exhaust is a better way to go because of "warranty" or that if you could squeeze more power out of the car BMW would have already done it.
Then they sit around for hours talking about driving school until it is time to take their metamucil and go to bed.
Great write up Sticky!
i reread the portion about pulling the GTR from ALMS. i never thought about how Porsche bitching about the M3 GTR actually paved the way for s65/s85
great original post...
...and then came the GT-R lol
Freaking awesome awesome article Sticky... I wish I could thumbs up you, but I need to spread the love... Sorry. :(
Welp, that wasn't true - +1 given. Great article - very nice work. I am curious if anyone here has a DINAN or other stroker S65 - anyone? If so, does it have the same "low grunt" seemed to have (but doesn't seem evident in the curves)?
So I just read this post and I loved it. Thanks Sticky! That was a lot of good information, it's amazing how awesome these 2 engines are. I knew I should have gone for a E46 M3 instead of this N54, or even an S65 - I will definitely own one sooner or later, and boost it of course.
Great article Sticky. I have no idea how I missed this in the past. Currently owning both an E46 M3 and E90 M3, I absolutely love both engines. I have vowed to never sell these two cars simply because they look to be the last of M's true philosophy and heritage implemented into their cars.
I absolutely love the S54B32 and the way it sings. Hence my choice in modifications are not to aim for the greatest power gains, but simply to augment what the master engineers of BMW M have done.
The S65B40 is an incredible power plant as well. When mated to the DCT, the thing just straight out pulls fairly hard to redline.
I am happy to own two automotive marvels.
Still an excellent read.
Thank you.
turns out the pistons in S65 are cast aluminum just like S54 and S85; see pg 49 of the BMW after sales training on the e90 M3
it's also interesting how they use a normal oil pressure VANOS system instead of high pressure on S54 and S85.
also keep in mind the MSS70 on the Z4M has 64million CPS in it's DME where MSS54 was 25 m.
My contribution of some relevant M trivia
Whatever this is still exceptional in my own estimation which is exceptional.
Great write-up! I didn't even know the M3 GTR existed :handgestures-thumb:
