Porsche to slot in another flat-6 powered 718 below the Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder?
This seems like clickbait from Automobile who is known to put out unsubstantiated articles. We know naturally aspirated flat-6 power is coming to the 982 chassis. This will be in the form of a 3.8 liter flat-6 that is likely a GT3 derivative as Porsche does not produce any other naturally aspirated flat-6 architecture currently.
It seems odd that Porsche would step back to the 991.1 3.8 liter flat-6 as Automobile suggests as the Boxster GT4 already utilized that motor with the 981 generation. Plus, would they retool the assembly line?
Where would Porsche slot in a second naturally aspirated flat-6 powered 718? Under the GT4? Well, isn't that the space the GTS occupies? Plus, wouldn't they be undermining their own 9A2B4 four-cylinder architecture?
One flat-6 special edition makes sense. Multiple flat-6 models? PorscheBoost will believe it when it sees it. Oh, and you better believe we will take Automobile and their 'inside sources' to task if we do not see it.
