Stop It - E28 5-Series with a 5.3 Chevy LSX V8 swap and Procharger on top

It's hard to hate on this LSX into a BMW swap when it's this well executed. Don't get us wrong, Bimmerboost still hates it, but we hate it less because it has some balls. The engine bay looks so good and so much work went into it why even bother with a hood?

This type of car tends to appeal to the Stanceworks (lowered garbage) crowd but fortunately there is quite a bit of function here and not just show.

Would an S85 V10 under the hood be preferred? Absolutely. But at least the owner seems to get it himself:

I loved my e28. You don't see very many of them anymore in my area. That car was bliss at 16 years old.

What's the point of any motor work if you can't even close the hood? Just drive it to a car show, say look at this, and then not be able to really drive it?

The more E28s are left to rot or ruined, the more I'm convinced I need to hold onto mine and restore it.

Although I'd very much like a fully-built S38 under the hood, nothing else seems right.

Right now it's sitting in a storage unit about 125 miles away, I'm hoping I can at least get it running properly again soon, but I don't have the space currently, as the M5 takes precedence.

My main goal over the next couple years is shed quite a bit of short-term debt and look into buying a house, something with a proper garage that would allow me to do this on my own time. I don't care if it takes me the rest of my life, but I want a fully-race-ready S38, 6 speed gearbox and all the other good bits under a clean E28 without any nonsense. It was my first car, and it deserves to be brought back to better-than-new condition. For years I've had all sorts of ideas about what I would do to it.

I want a real garage with some space as well but I'd need millions for that here. I'll get there eventually.

Hah, definitely true in SoCal. Where I am it's not much better, big cities are $$$$$...here in Chicago even finding a decent rental with a real garage and not just a spot in a complex is hard for any price, let alone a reasonable one.

Move to the city, they said. It'll be fun, they said.

Really it's just a prison for your car.

I'll probably just rent my place out as I'm almost paid off and then buy a house elsewhere. Just not sure where.

This car is sweet (, minus the stance-poser tires). Don't understand the hate for this, I don't care if the LS1 wasn't made by BMW. it's clean, well executed, and tasteful. Dig the red bay too.

Clean an well executed are big claims for a swap that doesn't fit under a hood. I'm fine with swapping anything into anything, but it needs to be functional.

Lots of well-done motor swaps, or even stock-motor builds in a variety of platforms, add height to the motor that requires a hood bulge, cutout, etc. Heck, if they'd simply kept the factory intake it looks like it might have fit under the factory hood. Likewise, that intake wouldn't fit under the hood of any factory-LS1 car. Just because these guys haven't fabbed/bought a hood that fits (yet) doesn't subtract points from the actual motor swap.
