Watch a stock 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus annihilate a 2014 Jaguar XKR-S GT in a one mile standing drag race
This is pretty damn one sided and the Jaguar XKR-S GT is hardly a slouch. As the highest performance vehicle produced by Jaguar it has some punch. It is based on the standard XKR-S which in all honestly probably would have done better than the GT version. Why? Because the GT has aerodynamic and suspension tweaks designed to help it around the track, not in a drag race. With far less drag the XKR-S and its identical 550 horsepower supercharged 5.0 liter V8 is the better straightline candidate.
The R8 is the facelifted V10 plus model. This is the highest performance R8 currently in production and it offers a 542 horsepower 5.2 liter naturally aspirated V10. Mated to a 7-speed S-Tronic dual clutch it moves quite well. Edmunds tested the car at 11.3 @ 123.8 in the 1/4 mile with 60 coming in 3.4 seconds.
So what happens in the race? Off the line the R8 just decimates the XKR-S GT after a few shifts. It looks like it has bus lengths on it but the final result has the trap speed at the mile between the two as fairly close although the times are not. The Jaguar goes through the 1/4 mile at 12.1 @ 121.7 and the mile at 30.3 @ 169.0 miles per hour. The R8 V10 Plus gets through the 1/4 mile in 11.2 @ 127.5 and the mile at 28.6 @ 172.6 miles per hour.
The R8 is just under 2 seconds quicker through the mile but the 1/4 mile sprint alone is just under a second difference at .9 seconds. The trap speed spread at the 1/4 mile shows a greater difference than at the mile implying the Jaguar started making up the gap at higher speeds. Regardless, the R8 just destroys the powerful Jaguar.
It would be great to see them around the track considering that is what the Jaguar is built for but the R8 likely wins that battle as well.
